For the last six months I have started to think about adding indoor plants to out home. The part that is curious is that when I was younger and didn't eat so healthy I had tons of house plants. . .maybe 20 or more. All of those plants died on our move from Oregon to California, 24 years ago. I was so sad but didn't replace them. . .I mean I do have one plant right now, but that leaves 19 more to replace. I will now do that gradually over time.
My parents just moved here last year. They lived on 5 acres in Oregon at the base of Mt Hood for 40 years and well, I guess that shows how much my Mom loves the outdoors. At one time she had a garden that was half an acre. Her current yard is small, perfect for her now, totally landscaped and really needs no new plants, but I have wanted to show her three wonderful nursery's in our area for a long time. One of the nursery's has a large selection of incredibly healthy house plants, so I am thinking that I will take her on the nursery tour really soon.
The whole gist of this post is to share what I have learned about the great benefit of indoor plants and a healthy environment. NASA did a study some twenty years ago about indoor plants and their benefits. . . I found a wonderful website that really puts all this into a nutshell.

I copied this chart for you. . .so if you're going to a nursery you can just click on it, copy and paste it into a document and print it out.

Thanks for listing these! I love plants and have several indoors, but need to remember who gets watered and how much. Some need a lot, like the peace lily, and some need very little and only from the bottom, like the African violets. Basically if they live within our home for over a year, they will become old timers along with us *:)
You're welcome Ginger! I love house plants too, but it's been a very long time. I bought five today and I hope they live. . . ;)
thanks for these. i love houseplants and i plant my own from seeds sometimes....good luck!
I'm back, and since I was just in church I wanted to mention that we have a Christmas Cactus that sits up on the platform where the bell chior plays and it actually blooms at Christmas each year. It is huge and one lady cares for it and breaks off little pieces now and then to regrow or give to shut ins. It is a marvelous plant. I am going to put that one on my list since it was mentioned here. Nice reminder.
Completely unrelated: You really have to create a story for those adorable mice in your banner!
That is awesome about the cactus Ginger! I had to look it up on line to see what they look like. It's wonderful that it blooms that time of year when most things are dormant.
Thanks for the comment on my banner. I love them too. They are one of those illustrations that just comes to you without notice are warning. Wish I would get more of those.
What a fabulous list! Thank you! We have a couple peace lilies ... that looks to be a good start! I'll have to figure out the names of some of the other plants we have in the house! :-)
You're welcome Kelly! I was thrilled to find such study and a list for that study existed.
